Morning Sun Sales Rep Shot
Mary Babb, a Morning Sun sales representative, was shot and killed in the parking lot of the newspaper office about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Babb, a longtime employee who had worked in both the Mt. Pleasant and Gaylord offices, was returning from sales calls when a man driving a Ford pickup truck rammed her SUV and pushed it several hundred feet.
Babb's SUV rolled over, and the man jumped from the truck and shot her twice with a long gun, believed to be a shotgun. He fled westbound on Pickard Street and is still at large at this hour.
Several newspaper employees and at least two customers witnessed the attack and shooting.
Morning Sun offices were in lockdown for an hour while police and ambulance crews responded. A Michigan State Police crime lab team was enroute to investigate the scene.
Mt. Pleasant school programs that were still open, including the PEAK after-school program, were also in lockdown mode.
Further details will be reported in Wednesday's edition of the Morning Sun.

I am the mother of an employee who works for your Company. I cannot express the fear that was felt in my heart when the news of the shooting was broadcast over the air and wondering if it was my child.
It wasn't..but it could of been.
sadly, who is safe anymore???
My heart sinks when I think of Mary going though all she did with a smile.
What a amazing women. God bless her and her son.
I never knew Mary, but it breaks my heart what happened to her. My prayers go out to the family of Mary and Sam. I have a little boy of my own and it seemed to hit home. God bless!
Mary Babb was my cousin. I want to thank you all for your prayers and support of our family. We're all coping very well and Sammy is doing great. We all had a wonderful Christmas today but it wasn't the same without Mary, we all love and miss her so very much.
Thank you to the family of Mary Babb for lobbying and working so hard to help pass the GPS ehancement for restraining orders.
Please help to encourage law makers in all 50 states to implement this much needed legislative policy so that more lives will be saved.
Mary Babb's memory will never be forgotten!
One person can make a difference!
